Wendy Garrett
Irene Heinz Given Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
Dr. Garrett studies how the gut immune system interacts with the intestinal microbiota in health, IBD and colorectal cancer. Her work focuses on how microbial communities shape innate and adaptive immunity and how disruptions in these communities drive inflammation and tumor development. Because her research also examines how microbial and immune signals travel along the oral-gut axis, it aligns closely with the themes of the Oral-Gut Conference.

Lakmali M. Silva
Ph.D
Investigates how inflammatory pathways within the periodontal microenvironment drive tissue destruction, building on pioneering discoveries of a fibrin-neutrophil axis and advancing translational insight into oral immune regulation at HSDM.

Matteo lannacone
M.D, Ph.D
He has made key contributions to our understanding of adaptive immune responses against pathogens and tumors through the use of cutting-edge in vivo imaging, single-cell technologies, and advanced animal models. His work reveals important insights into immune cell dynamics and the regulation of protective and pathological immune responses.

Petra Bacher
Ph.D
She has a strong interest in human microbe-specific CD4⁺ T cell responses and aims to understand their contribution to chronic inflammation. Her recent work demonstrates that TCR cross-reactivity is a key modulator of microbe-reactive T cell responses in health and disease, and that fungal microbes in particular play an important role in driving inflammatory CD4⁺ T cell reactivity in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.

Ana M. Caetano
M.D | Ph.D
She coordinates the National Institute of Investigation on Infectious and Chronic Diseases of Mucosa and Skin (INCT Mucosa and Skin) and is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). Her research focuses on mucosal immunology,immuno-biology of nutrition, oral tolerance, and the immunobiology of aging.

Katharina Lahl
Ph.D

William Agace
Ph.D
He focuses on how immune responses are regulated at barrier surfaces, particularly in the intestine. His research aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that maintain immune balance in these tissues, with in particular a focus on the role of dendritic cells and intestinal stromal cells in the regulation of mucosal immune responses.

Ana Colombo
Ph.D | DDS
Her work aims to elucidate the microbial communities associated with periodontal diseases and how interactions between oral microorganisms and host tissues contribute to inflammation and disease progression. More broadly, her research explores the ecological dynamics of oral microbial biofilms, the relationship between oral and gut microbiomes, and how changes in these microbial communities influence both oral health and systemic conditions.

Pedro Hernandez
Ph.D
The goal of the Hernandez lab is to decipher how the microbiota and the immune system modulate organ development and maturation, as well as tissue homeostasis, regeneration and physiology. They study the interactions between immune and epithelial cells in the intestine, and how these interactions regulate intestinal maturation and homeostasis.
